Studio and 1-bedroom floor plans
Studio and one-bedroom layouts live or die on circulation. With one room doing the work of three, the plan has to separate sleeping from cooking without walling the space in. These layouts keep the wet areas grouped on a single plumbing run, which is the cheapest saving available on a small build.

Common questions
- How small can a studio be?
- Minimum floor areas are set by your state's planning rules and by the National Construction Code rather than by a national number, and secondary dwellings often carry their own limit. Draw the layout first, then check the figure that applies to your council before committing.
- Can I turn a studio plan into a one-bedroom?
- Yes. Every layout here is editable, so you can add a wall to close off the sleeping area and the material quantities update with it. Watch the natural light: closing off a bedroom in a compact plan often leaves the living area with a single window.
